I have had THE most relaxing day off. Went to Big DIY shop for some plants but it was a bloody long hot walk in this weather (40 minutes either way and I walk quite fast for a woman
). I really wanted to buy more than 2 plants, but was somewhat constrained by the fact that I only have 2 arms and no car! I originally planned to call for a taxi on the way home, but was far too scared that the driver would take one look at my purchases and drive away in a cloud of dust. So, instead of spending £50 I spent £10.
It was a beautiful walk, I love looking at houses and gardens as I pass, so I walked a slightly different to normal way. So, not too bad, I think.
Got home, planted my beauty's and then realised that the 'new, triple size' flower patch (i'm a novice gardener so darent call it a flowerbed) was actually quite (very) empty
.
So, I thought, I'd go to my local hardware store to pick up some flower seeds and a fine watering can rose, which was all good. Asked the nice man where the nearest garden centre actually is. He was very friendly and helpful,
'ooh - its up by...'
I forget where he actually said, realisation dawned on me that I cant get there. Had to explain
'oh, i dont drive, is there one nearer?'
bit of a shocked face
and silence from the nice man.
Please tell me I am not alone. There must be other 'no car households' out there? I get a train to work, hubby works a 5 minute walk away from home and the buses/trains are frequent. I dont need to drive, and it makes me feel Im doing my bit for the environment.
Looks like I will now be taking my driving lessons for 2 reasons:
1)in preparation for babies
2)to be able to continue gardeing and go to a garden centre and shop to my hearts content!
Might have to leave my 2 plants lonesome for a while then!
Off out tonight, so gotta get washed up before man gets home from work,
